I had the awesome opportunity last Saturday to attend the women's World Cup races in Aspen, Colorado. This side trip was not in our original travel plans so I was totally unprepared equipment wise. I ended up photographing the giant screen using my 50mm lens. The results were completely serendipitous. This image is from a newly started series that I think I am going to title "In Sight.". The series is an attempt to explore our minds and interiors through the use of in-camera multiple exposures.<br />
I submitted this image to The Newspace Member's Show, to which it was accepted, under the title "Morphogenesis." I may still change the title of this particular image to be more in line with the series as a whole by expanding the name to "Morphogenesis of the Mind." <br />
I will be posting more images in this series shortly.Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-56474149662184410372012-09-14T11:13:00.000-07:002012-09-14T11:13:12.482-07:00The Second Annual Holga Out-of-the-Box Show <br />

I was honored to have two of my images juried into the 2nd Annual "Holga Out-of-the-Box" Show at the TCC Gallery in Longview, Texas. The juror for the show was Michael Kenna, whose work I greatly admire.<br />
The first image, pictured above, was accepted into the gallery. The second image, Sunset at PIR/The Lone Spectator, was accepted into the on-line gallery. I previously posted Sunset at PIR/The Lone Spectator on Feb. 7th, 2011 on this blog.<br />
The show opens on October 4th at the TCC Gallery in Longview, Texas. I had two images accepted this year. I heard the opening last year was very well attended with over 400 people! <br />
This image was shot this fall outside of Portland Oregon at a Cross Crusade Cyclocross Race. We have had an unusually sunny fall and winter this year even though it is a La Nina weather pattern (which for us usually means more snow.)<br />

I shot this image a year ago when I was in Hawaii. I really enjoyed the holiday decorations. People went over the top with decorations even re-creating snow by using white plastic on their front lawns. I grew up around snow so I thought it was really funny. It was the first time in my life that I was somewhere warm during the holiday season. This image is from a newly started series called "Views of Mt Hood." I love the many ways and places people choose to dipict Mt Hood. Most of the images I have shot so far are murals where Mt Hood is somehow included. Some of the murals are historical scenes, while others have Mt Hood included as part of a logo. This one was painted on a wall in an industrial area. My intention is to include some indication of location in all the images in this series.Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-214207876396566172011-08-18T20:51:00.000-07:002011-08-18T20:51:41.304-07:00Sun Circle<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTm_JDfES_wcDLAHyOXv6OlrMo4GqmEBH-asVnqQvfoEiXkZ8pzCzFlruLXn99o5kXEEc_8VuTM4i1p-eLu4kDpSJfvoeJRIPhgPqmrvKYxFHty-poOe7XxK9qmb2UtEIBCKQ-ld-d2w/s1600/07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" qaa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTm_JDfES_wcDLAHyOXv6OlrMo4GqmEBH-asVnqQvfoEiXkZ8pzCzFlruLXn99o5kXEEc_8VuTM4i1p-eLu4kDpSJfvoeJRIPhgPqmrvKYxFHty-poOe7XxK9qmb2UtEIBCKQ-ld-d2w/s320/07.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> Here is one of the color shots from my trip to the water park a few weeks ago. This image also got accepted into the <a href="http://bluemooncamera.com/">Blue Moon Camera</a> Customer Show. This was the first time I had brought film there to be processed and they did a wonderful job. The color and density is printed well and the prints even have borders which is kind of cool. And I didn't even know about the customer show. If the person printing runs across an image that strikes them they set it aside and then all the employees decide whether or not to put it in the show. Then at the end of the year they put them all up (last year had about 140 images) and they have a gallery opening and a show. I had two images accepted so that was a little bonus when I went to pick up my film.Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-12221406736445519632011-08-07T13:48:00.000-07:002011-08-07T13:48:02.429-07:00Water World<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxCM1er-bhgoW44FQX7P8hPUJ0sz7KqW_QIHM_qeGzYFhZsTAsND0uAn0JlDhD0UvfY-x5Vz_VxlKAUntSY5Vwy7uUljinlViNSq395cyCQb0QY0jHAgfOeTuX63d19xdRQB6yApdP5Q/s1600/Water+World+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxCM1er-bhgoW44FQX7P8hPUJ0sz7KqW_QIHM_qeGzYFhZsTAsND0uAn0JlDhD0UvfY-x5Vz_VxlKAUntSY5Vwy7uUljinlViNSq395cyCQb0QY0jHAgfOeTuX63d19xdRQB6yApdP5Q/s320/Water+World+001.jpg" t$="true" width="317" /></a></div>I had a ton of fun bringing my Holga to a huge outdoor water park a few weeks ago. I shot five rolls of film in three hours and spent the rest of my time doing some of the slides and the wave pool. I don't normally shoot alot of color film but I did do two rolls. I will drop those off later this week and hopefully I got a few color images as well.Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-68916391634137988582011-08-02T11:17:00.001-07:002011-08-02T11:17:43.381-07:00Notre Dame 2<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxWTDaytvCiCCw4IV_5kxtvPNAGBnwHO2IrSwqw7O59fii-7s9FMTHSyly97fgXLtm7CZFqnPSoYgEj6U9lBWmtrb1PQ4xkrzmXFFp-a9KPNFqfaO7ERkVFGWZi518pgsKJGdC7Qn8lg/s1600/Notre+Dame+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxWTDaytvCiCCw4IV_5kxtvPNAGBnwHO2IrSwqw7O59fii-7s9FMTHSyly97fgXLtm7CZFqnPSoYgEj6U9lBWmtrb1PQ4xkrzmXFFp-a9KPNFqfaO7ERkVFGWZi518pgsKJGdC7Qn8lg/s320/Notre+Dame+002.jpg" t$="true" width="320" /></a></div>Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-17628587918196624312011-07-17T13:55:00.000-07:002011-07-17T13:55:32.617-07:00Paris...as seen thru my Holga...in installments<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg072VLBepRAKP4EGbxMpR8iSv3VHa8schpPTvHm5UUgoeoM72qxZwKSiHeK_vWIg2tFx6nfFPfweAHchot6J9oAhJMVILRO9Q8tOagph__sDoNfsTEPpKx-4if0kZVwGk1fXWx6vGaJg/s1600/Notre+Dame+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" m$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg072VLBepRAKP4EGbxMpR8iSv3VHa8schpPTvHm5UUgoeoM72qxZwKSiHeK_vWIg2tFx6nfFPfweAHchot6J9oAhJMVILRO9Q8tOagph__sDoNfsTEPpKx-4if0kZVwGk1fXWx6vGaJg/s320/Notre+Dame+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> The Grand Lady (Notre Dame)Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-87381541986749277552011-07-09T10:26:00.000-07:002011-07-09T10:26:02.762-07:00The Starting Line<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiazDzGyWntwMr4yezGGb4fi6B01WaE08z2b3C8nBitncvA0zBMvDOnWF9U9_0CtH0ydWNJBjLqCxoNueK_BVRAZZHvWVYekNoe8gsP3RDiCISiUTIymTDa_gKab76fFYUp1v_bnv2GQQ/s1600/Mikkelson_Carol_StartingLine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" m$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiazDzGyWntwMr4yezGGb4fi6B01WaE08z2b3C8nBitncvA0zBMvDOnWF9U9_0CtH0ydWNJBjLqCxoNueK_BVRAZZHvWVYekNoe8gsP3RDiCISiUTIymTDa_gKab76fFYUp1v_bnv2GQQ/s320/Mikkelson_Carol_StartingLine.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> This image is part of my cyclocross series although I could probably do another whole series of "Dogs at Bike Races."Carol Mikkelsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15766729111629235391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-135610921779767712.post-91248977871385897882011-06-21T09:51:00.000-07:002011-06-21T09:51:57.632-07:00Cyclocross<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj6a8u1aY-JPetNPQ8xBOP-CIwGSahb7ALk0b7vVddrEYVzBamt_apQfXS40wUxOUtJ64ECWd4unZGWNJreIYr6rj2XTfhHSD_FrVx7hXh_KJi7P2O9-6v5A8FzI06CVSqCZTDppiJKw/s1600/CrossPix-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj6a8u1aY-JPetNPQ8xBOP-CIwGSahb7ALk0b7vVddrEYVzBamt_apQfXS40wUxOUtJ64ECWd4unZGWNJreIYr6rj2XTfhHSD_FrVx7hXh_KJi7P2O9-6v5A8FzI06CVSqCZTDppiJKw/s320/CrossPix-8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I've been printing whenever I can as I am hoping to put these together as a show. Instead of only photgraphing the actual race I have started photographing spectators and what happens before and after a race. I feel like I am spectating spectators. <br />
This whole series has been alot of fun. I enjoyed going out and shooting every weekend last fall and I had alot of film to develop. Since I develop and print all my own film I am very slow to post. I don't have a film scanner or my own darkroom so sometimes it takes me awhile to get into Portland and print. I think I will post one photo a week for now.
